Our Services

Our counseling services are designed to provide you with expert guidance and support tailored to your individual needs. We offer a confidential and safe space to explore your challenges, increase self-awareness, and foster personal growth.

Individual Therapy

Individual therapy provides a confidential, collaborative space for adults, adolescents, and children to address emotional, behavioral, and life challenges with a licensed psychologist. Sessions focus on identifying patterns, building insight, and developing practical skills to reduce distress and improve functioning. Therapists tailor evidence-based approaches—such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), exposure and response prevention (ERP), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), motivational interviewing (MI), and trauma-informed interventions—to each person’s unique needs, cultural and social identities, and goals.

Common reasons that people might seek individual therapy include:

  • Anxiety and panic

  • Depression and low mood

  • Stress, burnout, and life transitions (school, career, relationships, parenthood, retirement)

  • Trauma, grief, and loss

  • Relationship and communication difficulties

  • Anger management and impulse control

  • Self-esteem, gender and sexual identity, and body image concerns

  • Behavioral or emotional concerns in children and adolescents

  • Family issues

  • Suicidal thoughts and self-harm

  • Substance use concerns

  • Bipolar Disorder, mania, hypomania

  • ADHD, ASD, Neurodivergence

  • Coping with chronic illness or medical issues

  • OCD, phobias, and other specific symptom patterns

Couples Therapy

At North Star Counseling and Psychological Services, we provide emotionally-focused, trauma-informed couples therapy via secure telehealth for partners seeking to strengthen connection, resolve conflict, and heal relational wounds. Our approach is compassionate, professional, and confidential, tailored to each couple’s unique goals and history.

Who We Help

  • Couples at any stage: dating, engaged, newly cohabiting, married, partners in long-term relationships, and those contemplating separation, or actively navigating separation and/or divorce.

  • Couples experiencing communication breakdown, repeated conflict cycles, trust breaches (including infidelity), sexual/sexual-intimacy concerns, blended-family stress, or parenting disagreements.

  • Couples where one or both partners have histories of trauma, attachment injuries, or mental health challenges that affect the relationship.

What To Expect

Initial phone consultation: a free 15-minute phone conversation to determine if we will be a good fit for you and your partner's current needs.

Initial assessment: a thorough intake to understand relationship patterns, individual histories, strengths, values, goals, and safety concerns. Typically 90 minutes. Rate - $250, sliding scale optional; accepting insurance soon.

Regular sessions: typically 50–90 minutes, frequency tailored to needs (weekly, biweekly, or as clinically indicated). Rate - $225, sliding scale optional; accepting insurance soon.

Collaborative treatment plan: Goals and interventions are co-created with both partners and adjusted over time.

Evidence-based interventions: We draw from modalities such as Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for couples, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and trauma-informed frameworks to address attachment, emotion regulation, relational patterns, and behavior change.

Trauma-informed care: We prioritize safety, consent, and pacing. If past trauma impacts the relationship, we integrate strategies to manage triggers, build regulation and communication skills, and foster mutual understanding.

Skills-focused sessions: Communication tools, conflict resolution techniques, reflective listening, boundary-setting, and problem-solving practice.

Repair and trust-building: Structured work to acknowledge harm, facilitate accountability, and develop reliable repair sequences.

Sexual and intimacy work: Sensitively address mismatched desire, performance anxiety, trauma-related sexual concerns, and ways to rebuild physical and emotional intimacy.

Flexibility: Short-term couples coaching for targeted issues or longer-term therapy for complex patterns.
